KAYAK LEVEL 1 "Toe Wetter"

Have you ever wanted to try river kayaking?

This 2 hour course offers an introduction to river kayaking on calm, flat water. At this level skills can be modified to suit the needs and comfort levels of everyone 12 yrs+.

Kayak lessons are held in a flatwater lake or pool so you can master or sample:

• Paddle techniques such as turning, bracing and paddling in a straight line
• Bow rescues
• Edging and balance
• Learn concepts of how to roll a kayak
• GAMES to increase comfort level (optional)

** No Pre-requisites required
** All gear is provided except bathing suit and towel

KAYAK LEVEL 2 "River Otter"

Try your skills on one of the Cowichan Valley's beautiful rivers!

This 2 hour beginner kayak course takes the paddling skills you have previously learned to calm MOVING water. Suitable for ages 12+.

Progress to learn:

• Eddy turns
• Edging and balance in moving water
• Paddling techniques in moving water
• Basic swimming skills for moving water (optional)

** Pre-requisite : No pre-requisites required
** All gear is provided except bathing suit and towel

KAYAK LEVEL 3 "Fast Tracker"

The stunning Cowichan River has the perfect "drop" "pool" features that allow you to feel the rush of a rapid and the calm beauty and wildlife of a World Heritage River.

This 3 hour course allows you to experience the thrill of whitewater without committing to a full river run. Run a rapid and boost your confidence! Suitable for ages 12+.

Learn:

• River hydrology and hazards
• How to scout a rapid
• Follow a line
• Swim in a rapid safely (optional)

** Pre-requisite : Must have taken Kayak Level 1 or 2, have previous kayak experience or be comfortable in moving water.
** All gear is provided except bathing suit and towel

KAYAK LEVEL 4 "River Runner"

This is what river kayaking is all about!

This full day river run will allow you to enjoy the beautiful wildlife and features of vancouver island rivers. Suitable for ages 12+.

Learn and Practice:

• Eddy turns
• Paddling and bracing techniques
• River scouting
• Choosing and following a line
• Bow rescues and kayak rolling
• Basic river swimming and rescue skills (optional)

** Pre-requisite : Must have completed one of the following courses: Kayak Level either 1, 2, 3 OR have previous river kayak experience

For those that want the entire experience!

This 2-day white water kayaking course offers you everything you need to learn the basics. See your comfort level expand and be exhilerated! We start you on a calm, flatwater lake or pool and progress to moving water and rapid running. Suitable for ages 12+.

• Flatwater paddling techniques
• Edge control and balance
• Bow rescues and kayak rolling
• River scouting
• Moving water paddling techniques
• Eddy turns
• River hydrology and hazards
• Basic swimming and rescue skills (optional)

BASIC PLAYBOATING

Being able to roll your kayak increases confidence on the river and allows you to master basic skills and learn new ones much easier.

• Bracing techniques
• "C" to "C" roll
• Back deck roll
• Hand roll
